Kutztown Criminal Defense Lawyer
Are you facing criminal charges in Kutztown?
If you are facing criminal charges, you're probably very concerned about what the future will bring and reasonably so. My name is Curtis E. Barnes, Attorney at Law and I have nearly 25 years of experience working in the field of criminal law. As a former prosecutor, I have valuable insight into how the prosecution thinks and operates and I am well-aware of how once law enforcement has made their minds up about your alleged guilt, they will aggressively pursue a conviction against you.
In America, you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. As your Kutztown criminal defense attorney, it is my passion and my job to work tirelessly to challenge the prosecution's evidence against you. Unfortunately, innocence is not necessarily a get out of jail free card and innocent people get wrongfully convicted every day in this country. Whether you made a mistake or didn't do anything wrong, you need a tireless advocate fighting in your corner for your freedom and your future.
Not all criminal attorneys handle both misdemeanors and serious violent felonies, but I do. I also accept federal cases involving white collar crimes and identity theft. I handle virtually every type of criminal case in Pennsylvania, including but not limited to:
Can I get a DUI for driving under the influence of a prescription medication?
Yes, you can. With the explosion in prescriptions, we've seen a dramatic increase in people driving under the influence of prescription meds. In Pennsylvania a driver can get a DUI if they are caught driving under the influence of prescription medications, especially when the medication impairs their ability to drive safely.
Can I lose my kids if I'm convicted of domestic violence?
It depends on the circumstances but in some cases it can happen. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for spouses to falsely accuse their other spouse of child abuse or spousal abuse in a heated divorce or child custody battle. If you have been accused of family violence, you need a lawyer right away.
Why choose Curtis E. Barnes, Attorney at Law?
If you choose to go with a public defender, you run the risk of getting someone who is fresh out of law school or someone with too many cases on their plate. As a private criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor with nearly 25 years of experience, I am invested in securing a positive result on your behalf and I will work tirelessly to defend your rights throughout the entire process.
Does Pennsylvania have the death penalty?
Yes it does. On November 29, 1990 Gov. Robert P. Casey signed legislation that changed Pennsylvania's method of execution from electrocution to lethal injection.
Information on Kutztown
Kutztown is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania and as of the 2000 census, it had a population of 5, 067. Incorporated on April, 7, 1815, it is the second oldest borough in Berks County after Reading, which became a borough in 1783 and an official city in 1847. With a diverse economy and with people coming from different backgrounds, Kutztown residents can find themselves arrested and in need of quality legal counsel for offenses ranging from a typical bar assault to DUI, to petty theft crimes, and crimes that are sexually or financially motivated in nature.
Despite law enforcement's best intentions, our criminal justice system is far from foolproof. Unfortunately, innocent people are convicted of crimes they didn't commit each and every day, or people that made a one-time mistake face exceptionally harsh consequences they don't deserve. As a Kutztown criminal defense lawyer with over two decades of experience, I know local area judges and law enforcement and I am skilled at negotiating favorable plea bargains and presenting compelling arguments before the judge and jury.
If you or someone you love is facing criminal charges on the state or federal level, I urge you to contact me, Curtis E. Barnes, Attorney at Law to find out what types of defense strategies I would employ in your specific case.
